Nutritional AlkalisationBalancing Your Diet to Reclaim Your HealthA key role is played in the health of many people by the pH (the balance between acidity and alkalinity) within the body. As a general rule, and away from specifically acidic sites such as stomach and large intestine, the body seeks to maintain a pH level of 7.365 - a level of slight alkalinity. Unfortunately the typical modern diet, as well as being deficient in assimilable vitamins and minerals, has a marked bias in favour of components which have an acidifying effect. The simple fact is that fresh organically grown vegetables (ideally eaten raw) and low-sugar fruits are the elements in the diet which have the most potential to contribute to a healthy pH in the body. Most people’s diets are not made up of the 70% or so of these which is preferable: on the contrary they are in fact decidedly acidifying. (N.B. The acidifying effect of a food on the metabolism is not just a simple function of its explicit acidity. Lemon juice for instance, though acidic in itself, is digested and absorbed to produce bicarbonate which is alkaline. It therefore has on balance an alkalising effect in the body). The importance of maintaining the correct pH balance becomes clear when we look at the process of acidification within the body. If the body registers that it is becoming acidic, it takes measures to counteract this trend. Normally it has stores of alkaline substances (such as sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium) that it can use to help regain alkalinity. However, when insufficient amounts of these substances are present, either because of malnutrition or because of over-acidification, the body starts to draw alkaline minerals from other areas (e.g. calcium from the bones or magnesium from the muscles). However, most of these tissues need such minerals for their own well-being and, if they then have to provide for the body’s needs in terms of maintaining the optimum pH balance, they themselves end up depleted and weakened. Now of course the medium for the transport of substances around the body is the blood. It is the blood which, for instance, is used to transfer acid wastes to be excreted through urine, sweat or as vapour in exhaled breath. When the body is in a state of over-acidification the blood inevitably itself becomes overloaded with acids which it then begins to deliver back into body tissue. A vicious circle is thus set up and the only means the body has of storing the excess acid wastes is to store it in fat deposits. A further consequence of this whole process is that the body is rendered increasingly prone to excessive proliferation of the micro-organisms which, under healthy conditions, live within it in balance. When growing out of control these populations have the effect of compounding the problem, not only by using bodily resources to provide for their own survival, but also by producing their own acidic waste products. In addition many micro-organisms contain proteins which are very simlar to healthy proteins in the body, Some researchers have suggested that this may have the effect of confusing the immune system into attacking healthy cells and so causing many of the so-called auto-immune conditions. According to Robert.O.Young PhD, a microbiologist and nutritionist and head of the InnerLight Biological Research Center “Most diseases, especially chronic and degenerative ones, follow microform growth. Between athlete’s foot at one extreme and AIDS at the other, yeast and fungal overgrowths underlie symptoms such as diabetes, cancer, atherosclerosis (clogged arteries), osteoporosis, chronic fatigue and more - including infections that appear to be transmitted from person to person. The general signs of overgrowth include pain, infection, fatigue and bodily malfunctions including indigestion, diarrhoea, food cravings, depression, hyperactivity, antisocial behaviour, asthma” and many others. As a combined corrective approach to both nutrition and to maintaining a proper pH level in the body Dr Young formulated InnerLight’s SuperGreens™. SuperGreens comprise 49 organically grown grasses, sprouted grains and green vegetables which have been dried, powdered and concentrated. They infuse the body with over 125 easily absorbed vitamins, minerals and amino acids (the building blocks of proteins). They are taken in conjunction with Prime pH™ which is chlorine dioxide (formulated as its precursor sodium chlorite) and which acts as a water and oxygen catalyst in the blood. It has the effect of increasing the benefits of both the SuperGreens and the water with which they are taken and in addition it has been shown to be powerfully effective against Candida albicans. While other forms of nutritional supplement can be taken alongside SuperGreens and Prime pH, these two alone have a re-balancing impact on the metabolism that is so great that they can be said to be the essential cornerstone of any nutritional regime.
